Who Put This Bean In A Flying Tin Can

When the asteroid hit, Maxie had not been prepared for it. Already out of his seat and preparing for a routine spacewalk, the impact and resulting lurch of his shuttle had him slamming into one of the walls. Immediately his radio crackled, ground control's panicked voices begging for a response, any at all; while barely decipherable ones in the background mentioned things like 'off-course' and 'drifting dangerously far'.

What had started as a satellite repair mission he had done several times before, was now turning into a sudden solo deep space exploration mission. Great. The last thing the astronaut remembered before passing out was Earth, steadily growing smaller and smaller, and the radio turning to static.

Re: Who Put This Bean In A Flying Tin Can

Asterris was running checks over the ships system when he noticed a ship coming up on their radar. He made an attempt to hail the strange spaceship, but to no luck. Upon closer inspection, he could tell the vessel had been impacted, and he made quick work of sending out orders to pull the vessel on board. Once the vessel was being pulled in, Asterris made his way to the hangar, eight feet clacking tallons that echoed through the hall. By the time he reached the hangar, the vessel had already been pulled inside.

"Any luck getting a word from whatever is in there?" Asterris asked one of the technicians.

"No. I worry whatever is in there might not be conscious."

Asterris nodded at that. "Cut an opening. Whatever is in there may need assistance." The technician saluted Asterris before grabbing a plasma blade made specifically for the purpose of cutting open damaged hulls before beginning to cut through the vessel.

Maxie stirred at the sounds of Asterris and the others outside, but only really enough to blink blearily at the opening slowly being cut into his shuttle. Had he crashed on Earth? Maybe another ship had been able to retrieve him before he'd floated too far?

The human tried to call out, but only managed a weak groan as clumsy fingers tried to remove his helmet.

As soon as the opening was cut, Asterris was making his way into the ship. He had a hand resting on the holster of a gun attatched to his right front leg, in case whatever he encountered was hostile. However, when he saw Maxie he moved his hand to instead inspect him.

"Looks injured..." He murmured, grabbing Maxie's hand. "Don't take that off yet, I don't know what you are, but we have to make sure you can breathe what we breather before you remove any protective layer." He said, contemplating what he would do as he spoke before deciding to gingerly pick Maxie up in his arms.

Maxie just nodded, letting himself be easily lifted by Asterris and, instead of removing his helmet, pressing a button on the side so his voice could be heard. "Nothing...nothing broken. Maybe a concussion..?" His voice was weak, but he was waking up more by the minute.

"Need to get home...ground control's probably freaking out..."

"We'll have to figure out where your home is. We're far from know planets, and I'm afraid I've never come across your species yet." Asterris said, carrying Maxie out and briskly walking towards the med bay. "You probably have some form of concussion, luckily it won't be hard to fix." He said, carefully setting Maxie down as a medic came over. "Scan them first, see if our air is breathable for them." He said, and received a quick 'yes captain' from the medic.

Before anything else was said, blue light was scanning over Maxie's bodies, and words in some other language was floating in front of the medic and Asterris.

"Good, good, looks like the air we breathe is close enough in compound makeup to be safe." Asterris said thoughtfully, looking over something else and humming in thought before returning to Maxie's side and helping him get the helmet off. Asterris and the medic both took in a sudden breath at seeing what Maxie looked like, and exchanged glances, the Medic grinning giddily like a child that had just been tackled by a puppy. Even Asterris seemed to be fairly pleased as he set the helmet aside and retrieved syringe of amber liquid.

"According to our chart, this should have no negative affect towards you, and should remove the concusion in a few tiks." Asterris said before pressing the needle into Maxie's neck and injecting the liquid.

Maxie grunted at the needle and blinked his eyes a few times, the fog in his head finally starting to clear. Once his brain didn't feel like it was trying to explode, he looked up to thank his rescuers; instead, the reality of the situation slapped him in the face and had him gaping because oh my god, actual aliens had saved him!!

"Holy !@#$...holy !@#$ I knew it," He muttered, pulling off the form-fitting cowl so his head and hair were free. "Uh, greetings, I come from a planet orbiting a star we call Sol, third planet from it, I'm, uh,"

Before Maxie could finish his star-struck rambling, his radio crackled to life, only catching parts of words before cutting out again. "Oh my god they're gonna flip when they hear about this,"

Asterris looked startled by the outburst, five blue eyes widening for a moment before getting his composure back. At the sight of Maxie's hair, Asterris had to resist reaching out to touch it, but it seemed the medic couldn't resist and suddenly was running his claws through Maxie's hair.

"So soft..." The medic gasped, green eyes bright and excited.

"Medic Reven, you should not go touching strange new aliens without first asking." Asterris chastised.

Maxie flushed at the petting, trying to duck away without offending the medic- Reven, the other one said? Once out of petting range, he held his hands up in a placating gesture, nodding along to the chastising. "Ah, yeah, my species have varying preferences for personal space, but the consensus is to ask before approaching."

As he explained, he examined the aliens closer, honestly a little creeped out at how spider-like they were but able to push past it. He'd have to warn Earth ahead of time so arachnophobes could brace themselves.

"I'm Flight Engineer Max Thompson, of the National Aeronautics and Space Association. This is, uh, this is first contact ever of my kind with another sentient race."

Asterris looked interested. "You have not come across other life forms in your space exploration?" He asked curiously, then seemed to contemplate something. "I suppose with the way your vessel looked, your planet must not have reached the ability for solar leaps. Very well, my crew and I will be the face of our kind in first contact with your kind. I am Commander Asterris of Firelight, one of the head commanding ships in intergalactic exploration run by the Farrah Federation."
