Re: Flying At Sea

"That does sound delicious." Aerythel said with a grin, resting his arms on the table and leaning close. "Garlic is such a marvelous thing. The first time I tasted it was when I was very young, before I came into my power as a sea god. I met with a tribe that lived on the coast not far from here, this was before castles and kingdoms, and they prepared the most delicious boar, its meat having soaked in crushed garlic among other herbs and vegetables."

------

Fynn's face flushed and he was quickly rubbing the back of his neck and looking away. "Yeah.... I ah, I know. Thought it was worth a try anyways." He said with a shrug.

------

"When Fynn and I went to the pub you told us about, we mentioned you and it was brought up that you're a Siren." Ellwen said with a shrug, smiling at Isil. "And, well, I don't know much about Sirens or anything, so maybe I thought that might be why you are in a wheelchair? I am so sorry if I'm wrong about that," He said, suddenly flustered.

Re: Flying At Sea

"So you weren't born a god?" Reyjna asked curiously, ordering a shellfish bucket for the two of them when a waiter came, not taking her eyes or attention off of Aerythel. "Are all gods made, then? What did you have to do to get such power? Ah, forgive me if I'm asking too many questions; I only know of selkies and sirens,"

------------

"I..." Aetrin started, biting his lip when nothing else came to mind. He wanted to trust Fynn, he did, but well...his track record with guys wasn't exactly good. The fae crossed his arms, wings fluttering nervously every minute or so.

A handful of sprites decided to get comfortable on Fynn, sitting in his hair and on his shoulders. The ones that sat on his head had begun to weave flowers into whatever hair they could reach, voices like bells as they sang.

"I shouldn't trust you, I-I only trust Lily because she saved me, everyone else has...I can't trust you,"

------------

Isil deflated a little when Ellwen mentioned wondering why they needed a wheelchair, tugging on a loose strand of hair and not looking at the man. "Ah. No, um. Sirens can normally walk when they take on legs. There...There was a shark attack."

They turned their head away, toward the ocean, feeling far too vulnerable, all alone with this strange man they'd enchanted without a song. "I cannot walk or swim properly, anymore. It is easier to exist like this on land."

Aerythel chuckled and gave a shake to his head. "You can ask me anything you want, Reyjna. After all, I want you to know me, as I want to know you." He said with a smile. "I was not born a sea god, no. The gods will sometimes choose a mortal who they will take and teach them to be a god, and then give them the powers to be a god." He explained. "I was born a Merrow, a few thousand years ago, and chosen by the sea god Hkeski'nyah when I was twenty." The name of the old sea god being one that was nearly forgotten to the world.

------

Fynn held his hands up once again. "It's alright, I understand." He said lightly, disappointed but not upset. Gently, he gathered the little sprites in his hands and held his hands out palms up. "Thank you for the flowers, wee ones." He said softly, smiling lightly at the Sprites. If anything, following Aetrin was worth at least getting to see the Sprites.

------

Ellwen nodded a bit,a small frown gracing his face. "I get that." He said, wiggling his fingers on his prosthetic arm as held it in front of himself. "I'm sorry you can't swim, I imagine that would be a lot like not being able to fly." He said, sitting down in the sand in front of Isil and looking up at the Siren.

"Then please, ask me anything, too," Reyjna beamed, new questions already forming in her mind. Giving Aerythel a coy smile, she thought of something interesting. "Mm, and would you be granting me that same gift if I were to be yours?"

-----------

Aetrin groaned, grabbing at his hair in frustration when Fynn got ready to leave. Taking a deep breath and hoping beyond hope that he wasn't making another stupid desicion, the Fae marched up to the other and held out his pinkie, hand glowing slightly.

"You. You have to swear on your ancestors that you won't tell anyone. That-That you're someone worth trusting." He grumbled, some of the sprites going to his shoulders instead, trying to soothe him.

---------

Isil looked down at the prosthetic arm, frowning softly and reaching out to touch its' fingers. "What happened? If it's not too much to ask," They covered quickly, pulling their hand back when they realized Ellwen might not want the touch.

"I...you truly aren't under my spell? You aren't- you don't think I'm...depressing? Weird?"

"If that is something you would wish, yes." Aerythel said with a soft smile. "Is it?"

------

Fynn stared at Aetrin's glowing hand before looking into the Fae's eyes. He gave a sharp nod and hooked his own pinky with Aetrin's. "I swear it. And I swear I mean you no harm."

------

Ellwen smiled softly up at Isil and reached out to touch Isil's hand with his prosthetic one. "I don't think you're weird or depressing." He said softly. "When I was younger, around fourteen I think, I used to be a trouble magnet. Usually just scrapes and bruises, but, well, this was a lot worse." He said, just looking at their hands as he spoke. "It was the day I met Fynn. He was being attacked, was beaten really badly. I intervened and managed to save him, but lost my arm in the process."

Re: Flying At Sea

"I don't know. I suppose I would, eventually, if you succeed; but it's a difficult decision. I would have to watch many friends grow old and die." Reyjna frowned, knowing that if she fell in love with Aerythel she would want to share eternity with him, but unable to imagine Isil or her siblings aging while she stayed young.

Which brought her to another question. "Have you had to...experience that? Friends growing old while you remain ageless?"

------

Aetrin nodded firmly, taking his hand back and pulling his cloak tightly around himself. Even though Fynn knew what he was now, it still felt better to keep his wings hidden. "You, uh. Y'want some tea?"

The fae shifted from foot to foot, not at all used to having visitors. Not even Lily knew where he lived, after all; most of his company here were the sprites and pixies. Well, and the occasional unseelie that came from the swamp to trade, but they never stayed long.

-------

"No wonder you two are such good friends. I imagine such a thing like that would bond two people together through anything." Isil frowned, looking down at their connected hands. "I am sorry you had to lose your arm to protect him. I wish I could say my story was as heroic, but, well..."

Ellwen had been brave enough to share his past; Isil could at least try to reciprocate. "It is...hard, to speak about. I was just...out, swimming, like every other day, when it-it happened. I don't remember much of how I got away, but I washed up here and Reyjna found me. I am...too afraid, to try and swim home.."

Aerythel smiled sadly. "Yes, I've experienced losing friends and loved ones over the years." He said, looking away from Reyjna for a moment, lost in the past. "When I was first chosen by the god, he kept me for twenty years before I could go back and see friends and family. Some were not around anymore, and some had grown so old they did not remember who I was." He shook his head. "I did not remain long with them, watching them age and die was too much. It grew easier as the years passed and I became known as the new sea god, however. It still is hard, of course, but there is no changing that."

------

Fynn couldn't help but smile. "I would love some tea." He said, wings fluffing a bit. "The only thing I've tried down here so far has been ale."

------

"So you made a home here." Ellwen said gently, giving Isil's hand a squeeze. "I'm sorry you haven't been able to return home, I know that must be difficult." He spoke softly.

"I suppose that means I ought to put a lot of thought into this serious decision," Was all Reyjna could think to say, as she tried to imagine saying goodbye to her family, to Isil. She shook the dark thoughts away, trying to tease Aerythel instead and lighten the mood. "And you'll have to try your very hardest to win me, too,"

--------

Aetrin felt the tips of his ears grow hot and quickly turned to face away from Fynn to hide the blush he knew was coming, marching towards his home and expecting the other to follow.

"'S not like anything you'll get in town," He apologized, opening his door for this veritable stranger and, very reluctantly, hanging his cloak away. His wings sat against his back, every so often fluttering nervously. Here, at home, it was harder to control.

Still not facing Fynn, the Fae went to an old-looking stove, focused on making tea and absolutely not making a fool of himself.

------

Isil flushed darkly, the kind words almost too much as he struggled to look at Ellwen. "I, um, It's alright. Siren pods tend to cull their weakest members so going back would mean dying as well, I, I suppose,"

"It's always important to weigh a decision as this." Aerythel said with a nod. "And I will work to have you fall for me. And don't worry, I won't try and take your pelt from you, I hear that is a common thing people from land do to Selkies."

------

"Tea is tea, I'm sure it will be great." Fynn said as he followed Aetrin, unclasping his coat from around his wings before pulling it off to hand it beside Aetrin's. He looked curiously over Aetrin's wings, but held back from his want to touch them. "Sorry again for following you, I didn't intend on scaring you. I, ah, I'm not to great at this sort of thing." He said, rubbing his arm a bit. "How long have you been out here, if you don't mind me asking?"

------

"Well I'm glad you're here then." Ellwen said with a gentle smile, standing again suddenly and smiling. "You know, I can't say I've swam in the ocean before. How about we help each other out and take a little swim just right here together? We don't have to go farther than where I can stand." He said, smiling brightly at Isil.

"Good. I have drowned many men who have tried to steal it; I don't think my usual methods would work on you, though," Reyjna chuckled, though she was truly grateful that Aerythel wouldn't be attempting such a cheap move. "Most of my family avoids towns because of that, but I was never able to simply stay by the caverns."

------

"Whole life." Was all Aetrin said, taking a moment to prepare a tea tray and then carrying it to a rickety table. None of the chairs matched.

The fae sat and gestured for Fynn to do the same, his face scrunching up as he realized he should probably say more than two words. "Uh, used to live here with my family. Cousins and aunts and all that. There were more houses, too, but the forest's taken 'em back by now. This one's the only one left."

------

Isil gasped, staring out to sea with a mixture of longing and fear. "Oh, I-I don't know, open water has been rather frightening to me lately, and I-"

They cut themselves off, imagining sharks waiting just below the dark waters, even as they used Ellwen to stand up and lean against. It had been so, so long...

"Only. Only as deep as you can stand."
