Re: Flying At Sea

Fynn couldn't help but laugh when Aetrin got beer up his nose. It died down to a chuckle after a moment, leaving a smile on his face instead of a scowl.

"Well, maybe with me visiting him once a week he'll be less lonely." Ellwen said with a soft smile, thinking back to earlier and already eager to see the siren again. "I do hope to get to know him better."

"Hey, didn''t your ma ever teach you it's rude t'laugh at people?" Aetrin said gruffly when Fynn cracked up, only the little upward quirk of his lips showing his amusement.

Lily hummed, disappearing with a large keg on both shoulders; returning once she'd made the rounds and refilled any drinks that needed it. "Some folks 'round here that don't like them too much like to say they're a siren, banished from the sea."

-------

Isil frowned at Aerythel, but nodded after a long moment, trying to roll their wheelchair back up the beach to more solid ground. "As long as I get my supplies I am happy. I do not go into the ocean much anymore."

Reyjna sighed at that, just patting her friend's hand and giving his chair a good hard push. "You know you still could, that I wouldn't let any sharks near."

Fynn froze a moment before glancing away and shrugging a bit. "Something like that..." He said, his smile falling.

"That's... sad." Ellwen said, looking towards the door. "That would be like being banished from the sky, I can't even imagine."

------

"A bad shark encounter?" Aerythel asked gently, curious but not eagerly so. "It must have been bad to keep a Siren from the water."

"Ah, no, !@#$," Aetrin whipped his head around, one eye as wide as it would go and hands up by his chest trying to wave away the miscommunication. "Sorry, sorry. Just teasing. 'M not-'M not good at being very social."

"Personally, I think it's all a load of bullshit. Poor thing's just a lonely little chemist that needs some good friends. Well. More than the one." Lily shrugged, not putting much stock in the rumors, even though she loved hearing them. "I just like to listen to the gossip, keeps me informed,"

--------------

Isil looked reluctant to share, but then. They only had Reyjna to talk to, to vent to; it would be nice, to vent to someone else that understood and hadn't heard it a hundred times.

"It damaged my tail so badly I can no longer swim without assistance. The damage transfers to my legs, as well, so walking is...difficult." They clenched their fists, missing home more than anything in the world, but too afraid to return. Reyjna touched their shoulder, trying to comfort, but the siren couldn't stop now that they had started.

"It's not normal in siren society, to-to take care of the disabled. I would be a danger to the pod; I-I can't go home because of that stupid, stupid creature,"

"It's alright, there's no way for you to have known." Fynn said, giving Aetrin a half smile that didn't reach his eyes. "It... was a long time ago as well, so don't fret over it."

Ellwen nodded a bit, then went to stand only to wobble a bit. "Ah... think it's time for me to lay down for a bit." He said with a grin on his face. "Thank you for the ale, Lily, and the great company." He chuckled, looking just pleased. "Where would the room be?"

------

Aerythel nodded as he listened. "I'm sorry you've had to suffer that," He said, bowing his head again to Isil. "To be kept apart from your pod, I know how important it is for Sirens to have community." He said, then looked at Isil curiously. "Tomorrow, after you both have slept, come to the beach we came from, I would like to show you both something."

"Aetrin, go t'bed, and show these two to a room while yer up there," Lily nudged at her friend, noticing the way he had started to droop and knowing from experience it was best to make him sleep before the ale made him sad. "Tomorrow, cause I like you two, breakfast is on the house."

Aetrin opened his mouth, wanted desperately to say something to Fynn, to tell him he knew the pain he felt; but at Lily's request his jaw clicked shut. The fae just nodded, grabbing onto Ellwen to keep him steady and leading the way up a rickety staircase.

"Should be an open room next to mine; look for rooms with open doors."

---------

"It's a date." Reyjn winked, answering for them before Isil could say no and throw away whatever it was that Aerythel was offering.

Ellwen had a bit of trouble on the steps, flaring his wings out behind him to help with his balance, but all it did was make the Duke ridiculous. "Thank you, kind sir!" He hummed, going for a room with an open door and disappearing inside.

Fynn sighed and shook his head as he watched his friend. "He's always like this at festivals." He said with a fond and tired smile. "Never hesitates to turn strangers into friends, either."

------

"Wonderful!" Aerythel said cheerfully, keeping pace with ease. "Now then, how about I treat the two of you to the best treats of the festival?"

"I'd say your friend is dumb as a sack a' bricks for being so trusting, but it's seemed to work out for him so far." Aetrin snorted, wishing that the alcohol had done anything to calm his agitated nerves. Being in such populated places always freaked him out; even if Lily's was a safe haven.

He nudged Fynn lightly, wanting the other to go get some rest as well. "Y'look dead on your feet. Go t'bed, before you fall over out in the hall. Bed's much nicer than the floor, in my experience."

-----------

Isil shook their head, turning to face the ocean again with a forlorn smile. "You two go have fun. It's gotten to crowded up there; I'm just going to enjoy the night air a little longer and then make my way home."

Reyjna looked like she wanted to argue, to make her friend come with them and have fun instead of moping alone on the beach, but deflated after only a minute. They had had this fight a hundred times over, and it would always end the same; Isil, alone, hurting even more than if she'd just left them alone.

"Alright. Don't stay out too late, it's supposed to be cold tonight." Was what the selkie said instead, taking Aerythel's hand and pulling him up the path to town before he could say anything.

"He has a way with people." Fynn said before nodding a bit. "Probably should." He glanced at Aetrin as he stepped towards the room. "Thanks. I didn't really want to come down from Caelum Ventus, but you've helped make it enjoyable." He said, a brief smile crossing his face before he went into the room.

------

Aerythel merely gave Isil a parting nod as the selkie pulled him away. "Now, we should get to getting know each other." He said with a bright smile, teeth looking like a shark's. "Have a favorite dessert?"

Re: Flying At Sea

Aetrin flushed, wings aching to flutter against his back; though he had learned long ago how to keep them still in public. This was just a stupid crush, because Fynn had said something sweet to him, it would fade as soon as he was gone in the morning.

Still, the faerie used his magic to gift Fynn pleasant dreams.

--------

Reyjna hummed thoughtfully, rather enjoying the shark teeth though she knew it would cause friction with Isil. "That's a tough one, there are so many delicious sweets! It's like choosing a favorite child, really,"

---------

Isil slowly pushed themselves up, standing on trembling legs and taking step after step until their feet hit the water. They stared out at the sea longingly, trying to see a home that was oceans away. A moment of silence, and then the siren began to sing.
