Re: SeaWorld with Mermen

Asher heard the clicking of a pod mer and tilted his head, letting out a little huff before bumping his head against Oliver. "Sounds like another lost pod mer." He said, nipping at Oliver shoulder with a grin. "Better help them out before someone decides to snatch them up." He chuckled, moving to swim out of the ship. He paused when he didn't first see the bright colors of a pod mer standing out in the water, then let out an angry snarl when he saw the divers. "Oliver, human!" He shouted, clicking angrily and fanning out his fins.

Re: SeaWorld with Mermen

"We come from the Mer Preservation Society! We mean no harm, we want to ask for your help," The leader of the group of humans spoke, swimming forward to be easier heard by Asher. They held their hands out placatingly, unarmed and hopeful. "We have made the park you escaped from into a marine preserve with open, 24/7 ocean access. But the mers need rehabilitating, they need someone to teach them to survive on their own,"

Oliver frowned and swam up behind Asher, squinting his eyes at the humans before giving his mate a few inquisitive clicks. "They don't have any weapons. And I think they're filming? I think we can trust them, Asher,"

"I don't trust humans." Asher clicked, but huffed and nuzzled his mate. "But if you think they're trustworthy, I will follow you Oliver." He clicked, then looked at the divers. "Show us."

"We're going to return to our boat; you can follow us from there," The lead researcher spoke, before gesturing for their team to return to the surface. Oliver followed, after a moment, head popping out of the water to watch the humans climb back onto their boat.

"This way I can make sure Vei is still okay. I'm worried he was hurt," He chirped, missing his friend and hoping that the other mer hadn't been forcibly bred and hurt.

"The first sign of danger I am getting us out of there." Asher clicked at Oliver once he joined him, having quickly grabbed his spear before surfacing with his mate. "I won't let us be trapped again." He said and eyed the boat of researchers distrustfully.

"I know, love. Anything suspicious and we're out of there." Oliver agreed softly as the engine of the boat rumbled to life, hoping desperately that this wasn't some kind of trick.

Above them, the divers stripped off their suits and returned to their stations; save for one that must have been the leader of the expedition. She stood taller than the others, hair pulled back in a tight bun, black and slick like oil. There was a stern look on her face as she turned to look at the two mers, though she tried to soften her expression.

"We'll be on our way back soon, so just keep our boat in sight. You don't need to get close to it if you don't want to. If there's anything you need, just shout for Mariel."

Asher gave a nod to the woman. "We won't be getting close." He affirmed. "Don't like ships." He said, still remembering the first time he was dragged onto human ships. "First sign of a tranquilizer and I'm attacking."

"We only have a limited supply on board in case we're physically attacked. You won't be getting anywhere near those needles, no worries." The woman, Mariel, explained, watching the two for just a moment longer before turning, shouting orders as she walked away.

Oliver sighed and began to swim lazily behind the boat when it started to move, thoughts stuck on Vei, and if he was even still alive. "These humans are different, I like them."

"Still going to keep an eye on them." Asher said, lightly nuzzling Oliver as they followed the boat.

Back at the reconstructed aquarium, Vei waited with baited breath. He had been told the humans were trying to find Oliver and Asher, and he hoped they would. It had been years since the mer had seen his best friend and he wondered how the years had changed the other mer. He swam in loose circles around the now open and much larger tank, watching for any signs of mers coming in.

Oliver purred and happily returned the nuzzles, only swimming ahead when his old home became visible. "The humans will see us in there, let's go!"

As fast as he could, the mer was darting through a large opening that served as the 'front door' to the ocean, hoping desperately that his friend was alive. "Vei!!, Vei!!!"
